My Memories of The Nintendo 64

Millennials like me have great memories of growing up with
the video games of the Nintendo 64. Always excited playing those games with my
brothers. In this blog I post about my favourite Nintendo 64 games. Have in
mind that this is just a personal list: some classics that I didn’t play back
then or played when I was an adult may be left out.
Super Mario 64
One of the first games that we played was Super Mario 64. It was a very
important game in the 3D platforming genre. It was the first big game that
featured Mario’s now iconic voice (“It’s a me, Mario”), included very fun
levels like Tick Tock Clock and Jolly Roger Bay, introduced Metal Mario and an
epic battle with Bowser. It had everything a Mario-game should have, and gave a
new dimension to Mario.
Duck Dodgers Starring Daffy Duck
I also have good memories about this Looney Tunes game. It was fun to play
as Daffy Duck and I specifically liked the museum level where museum pieces can
be destroyed. It was a very funny game.
Super Smash Bros.
Super Smash Bros is now a very long series and the most recent Super Smash
Bros has a way more advanced character choice than the first one, yet the first
game invented it all: a game where Nintendo’s icons fight each other. It was
the birth of one of my favourite video game franchises.
Pokemon Stadium
Who doesn’t love Pokemon fights? This game had them on 3D. Although the
story campaign from the Gameboy was missing, it also had memorable minigames,
like Run, Rattata, Run.
Donkey Kong 64
This in one of the highlights in the Donkey Kong video games. It introduced
new characters (that sadly were in later games rarely used again), it opened
with the funny DK Rap, it had nice challenges like collecting items, fight
bosses, play minigames… But I love the final battle with King K. Rool at the
end of the game. As the character was intimidating first, he gets defeated in a
comedic way. We also enjoyed the multiplayer.
Banjo Tooie
Although I didn’t play the original Banjo Kazooie game until 6 years ago
when I was already an adult, when I was a kid we had lots of fun with the
sequel Banjo Tooie. The dark opening scene impressed me, but loved the gameplay
and the creative move-set, the fights with the character Klungo, the funny quiz
at the end and the final confrontation with the antagonist Gruntilda.
So this is my nostalgia. And back then when you bought a
game, you got the complete game. Nowadays it’s update here, update there…
