The Most Historic Places in Delft

Delft Station |
One of the most historic city’s with good
atmosphere in the South Holland province of The Netherlands is Delft. In this
blog, you find the things I always visit when paying Delft a visit.
The Prinsenhof
This museum, which was built in the Middle Ages as a
monastery and later was the residenceplace of William of Orange, features many
historic paintings and sculptures from the 16th and 17th century. William of
Orange was murdered here, and includes the famous bullet holes. Visiting this
makes you wiser about the era.
Bakery De Diamanten Ring
This one I personally find very interesting. You
wonder what’s so special about a bakery? The hideout of Balthasar Gerards, the
man who murdered William of Orange back in 1584, used to be located here. So if
you walk from this bakery to The Prinsenhof, you can see his walking route.
The Nieuwe Kerk
This church is known fort he place where many Dutch
princes and royals are buried and fort he tomb of William of Orange. But the
peace you find in it is nice, and the place looks exactly like the paintings.
The Oude Kerk
This other famous church of Delft, which includes the
leaning tower is also worth a visit. It includes the graves of Antoni van
Leeuwenhoek (the father of microbiology) and painter Johannes Vermeer, a true
Delft icon.
The Markt
This market square, which also includes the Nieuwe Kerk and the historic
City Hall is cosy especially on sunny days and gives Delft extra atmosphere.
So, tourists, I advise you: when visiting The The Netherlands, don’t only visit Amsterdam. Delft is worth seeing too.
