Parasite Review

One of the biggest surprises from last year is Parasite, made in South Korea. It is without a doubt one of the best films I have seen.

This film is directed by Bong Joon-Ho and has won several prices (including several oscars) already. And this is all rightfully deserved.

The film is described by the creator as “a comedy without clowns, a tragedy without villains”. Which makes this movie quite an unique balance.

To describe the plot short: Ki-Woo, from a poor, working class family (the Kims), gets an oppurtunity to work as an English tutor of the young daughter of the  rich Parks family by using false papers. One by one, the rest of the Kim family fraud themselves into working for the Parks family as well. The plan goes flawless, until a rollercoaster of unexpected events leads to at first comic situations and later on a tragic twist.

The film not only plays on the stress people get when unexpected things bring a plan into danger, but also lays bare the battle of the classes in South Korea. It is a perfect mix between dark comedy and thriller. And this all in a very well directed and well written level the message is brought to the screen pretty well.

So this film I highly, highly recommend. Go and see it!!
